Week 4
Week 4 Saw us leave Calgary and head to Whistler Sliding Centre in British Colombia on the west coast of Canada. We headed out from Calgary early in the morning for a 12 hour drive... Starting to get sick of the driving now, the distances are just so long...
So we arrived at Brio House, owner by a young Aussie couple. This is such an awesome place to stay, so comfortable and so spacious. The next day was a doy off sliding for us that travelled... But we headed to the track none the less. Started to see some old faces, some good friends...Graham Richardson was one of the first I saw, I was pretty happy to see him. He was quite surprised to see me. Said it must be close to Olympics, because I came back... Cheeky bloody Pom... So he hung around us for while.
Then I saw my good friend from Munich, Alex Mann. Only saw him back in August, but it was still really good to see him again. So we ended up having dinner a few times with hiim joining us. We also did the usual bobsleigh thing, asking if there were any runners that the Germans might be able to rent to us for the season. Unfortunately, the German pilots do not own their equipment, FES owns it, so they can't loan out their kit... Would have been quite handy that's for sure!
My day came to push Chris Spring in training. I had 2 days pushinghim. The first day was really good, pretty fast starts, 5.03 & 5.02. Down times were impressive as to was the top speeds. A few days later I had the chance to push again. Due to the rain constantly falling, I only had the chance to push himin one training run, but wemade the most of it. 4.98. All in all, a very good week training.
Then came time to leave. Facing another 12 hour road trip... We started to pack the truck. It was raining quite heavy and everything was totally soaked. As Duncan and I were moving bags into the truck, I went to step out and slipped on the top and feel about 3 feet to the ground and landed heavily on my left side, spraining my left thumb in the process. It hurt like hell all day. In fact it's still sore even after 3 weeks!
There was heavy snow all the way throught the middle of the journey, I did most of the driving this particular day, about 8-9 hours worth. I was rather stuffed the next day back in Calgary.
